School Outdoor Athletic Facility - Call to
Arms
A group of interested community member requested the
school board to allow them to place a small bond issue on the August
ballot to improve the outdoor athletic facility. The board will consider
the request at the April 14th, 2008 meeting to be held in the elementary
school library at 7:00pm.
If the board approves the request, the citizens group
would like to have an eight lane all-weather track installed for use
during track season and for use by the community as an exercise site for
walking. Although this is not the only reason or use for the bond money.
-
New football field lighting
-
New press box
-
Fencing to enclose facility
-
All surface walks and handicap accessibility
The citizen group has agreed to pay all of the costs of
the August election and to fund and manage the campaign. Unofficially the
project looks to cost between $900K and $950K and cost an owner of a $200K
home around $55.13 per year. Over a 10 year period, the millage would be
0.90 ( less than 1 mill of new tax ).
Alternatives to a bond issue are as always being sought
and ideas are welcome at schooltrack@millersport.com
. Millersport does need these things to improve it's athletic program,
school and community as a whole. The community's only help starts within
itself and supporting your neighbors and it's businesses is your
call to arms.
